The recognition of two dimensional barcodes Aztec, PDF417, DataMatrix (ECC000 to ECC140 and ECC200) and QR Code is also possible. These barcodes contain a lot more information than the usual barcodes, dependent on the type and size, up to 3000 characters can be encoded in one barcode. The whole text of a DIN A4 page would fit in one single barcode. Because of an integrated error correction, 2D barcodes are also more tolerant towards data errors, which can occur during printing or scanning.
The PDF417 consists of multipe rows. In this barcode, the whole character set can be encoded, up to 1850 characters. It is variable in width and height. The PDF417 was chosen by the KBV (Kassenärztliche BundesVereinigung, Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians) to be printed on medical forms.
The DataMatrix is used by the German Post as a “Stampit” stamp. Binary data is also encoded.
The QR Code was developed in Japan. It can also contain the japanese Kanji characters.

Yes, bcTester can open up Adobe PDF-Files and read barcodes in the documents. PDF-Files can contain a large number of components (text, fonts, logos, images, links) and have different structures.
Before the barcode recognition starts, every page is interally converted into a picture frame. Given that the resolution is chosen high enough (usually 300 dpi), the barcode recognition can start.
If your barcodes cannot be recognized, there are several possible reasons. We offer you detailed descriptions of problems and solutions for download under bctipps_en.pdf
